Happy birthday to a salad?

This morning I heard a story on the radio about Caesar salad that claimed today was the salad’s 100th birthday.

I can understand that it becomes difficult to come up with holiday stories that are novel and of general interest. But I have my doubts about the accuracy of that anniversary date.

Still, I will take advantage of it to recommend a story about Caesar salad that I wrote in 2009, at a time when my blog was fairly new and had fewer readers.

Meanwhile, have a great holiday!

Hi Jan-   I enjoyed your article about the admittedly murky origin of the Caesar Salad!  One thing is certain, at least for me: when well made with quality ingredients, there is nothing more delicious. AND when made with lesser quality ingredients and doused with bottled “Caesar’s Dressing”, there is nothing worse. I have also learned to avoid ordering the salad at any restaurant that spells it “Ceasar Salad.” If they can’t spell it properly, they probably can’t make it properly, either. (And then there is the restaurant that, among their daily specials, listed a “ Waldord Salad”. No doubt using the classic recipe as made originally at the Waldord Hotel.)   Have a Happy 4th of July!                           Best regards                                    Bob

Thanks for highlighting the Caesar Salad 100th anniversary. I’ve adored the original recipe and its close relatives for decades. Here’s a link to a posting I did on the subject years ago. https://petermoruzzi.com/2012/03/15/home-of-original-caesar-salad-reopens-in-tijuana/
